Resource Number: 17317920
Alternate name: PSE

Description

Statewide office of Protective Services for the Elderly investigates reports of known or suspected physical or mental abuse, exploitation, or neglect of adults ages 60+ living in the community; Also investigates reports about abuse/neglect cases of individuals, ages 60+ living in long term care facility settings.

A fillable W-675 PDF form can also be utilized for reporting. Please FAX the W-675 form to 860-424-5091, in addition, a dedicated inbox psereferrals.dss@ct.gov has been created to receive the form, also. Individuals can find the form at the Department of Social Services web link below. Please note: Telephone reports are preferred.

Effective June 24, 2024, DSS launched a new online portal for submitting referrals to the programs. This portal is designed to streamline the referral process, making it more convenient and efficient to report concerns about vulnerable elders who may need assistance.

With the new online referral portal, you can:

  • Submit referrals quickly and easily from any device 24/7.
  • Receive a confirmation number that your referral was submitted.

Mandated Reporters can use to:

  • Use the online referral portal for non-emergency situations
  • Register for a mandated reporter account

Although not required to submit an online referral, registered mandated reporters can track the acceptance status of referrals and receive notification of the investigation results.

To access the portal, please visit Home (ct.gov) and follow the simple instructions to submit a referral and register for a mandated reporter account.

For more information, see a link here to the training video regarding the online portal and registering for a mandated reporter account. https://portaldir.ct.gov/dss/learncenter/ElderAbuse/Online%20Reporter%20Portal%20Tutorial/

Unpublished Notes211 Call Specialists can talk to the PSE worker about financial emergencies that the elder is dealing with, to see if the PSE worker can access funds to help the elder. In very rare circumstances, after assessment, PSE may be able to help with financial crisis in order to safeguard the elder until they are stabilized. HOWEVER, this assistance is a last resort, and does not take the place of the 211 Call Specialist exploring options from the traditional assistance that may be available to that elder. (foundations, town social service depts., social service agencies, etc.) BOTTOM LINE: Do not refer elders who have unpaid bills to PSE! Referrals to PSE are for elders who are being (or at risk of being) abused, exploited, or neglected.
