Description
Insurance benefits are paid to certain eligible dependent survivors of covered workers, providing that the worker earned enough Social Security credits while employed. Family member survivors can include a widow or widower ages 60+, 50+ if disabled, or any age if caring for a child under age 16; children if they are unmarried and under age 18, or under age 19 but still in school, or any age if disabled; and parents if the worker was their primary means of support. There is a special one-time payment of $255 that can be made to a spouse or minor children if the worker earned enough work credits while employed.
