Program: CAREavan Union City Safe Overnight Parking Program

Description

Offers families or individuals who are temporarily homeless, living in their vehicles a safe place to park overnight. All participating facilities and locations will be providing open restrooms throughout the night. Community and Recreation Services Department will be providing an attendant. Attendant will be present throughout the night at all locations.

Some facilities and locations will be providing the following, (ask program contact for specifics):

  • Open pantry (clothing and food)
  • Dinner service/breakfast/snacks
  • Free Wi-Fi/computer use

Pet friendly program. Must pick up after pets.
Does not accept any motorcycles, RV's, or motorhomes.


Please note:

Offers ongoing services during Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) and Disasters. Services are available if power is turned off in this facility.

Program Delivery
Eligibility: Must have the need of a safe parking space to sleep overnight.

Must have a running vehicle. Does not accept any motorcycles, RV's, or motorhomes.

The location of program varies with host availability. Once registered, locations and nights of operation will be shared.
Vehicle must be owned by person registering for program.
Languages: Interpreter services available, Spanish, English
Application Process: Call for appointment. Will be given a Placard to be posted visibly in windshield area.
You must call Jesus Garcia at 510-675-5482 or Elaine Winnigton 510-675-5406 to make an appointment. Must Register with the program in order to participate. Vehicle must be owned by person registering for program.
Program Fees: No fee
Documents Required: Need make, model, license plate number, and color of vehicle in order to register.
