Provides free to low-cost medical insurance for qualifying California residents of all ages. Covers essential health benefits including:
- Outpatient, emergency and hospitalization services
- Maternity, newborn care and pediatric care
- Mental health and substance use disorder services
- Prescription drugs and laboratory services
- Physical, occupational and rehabilitative therapy
- Preventive care and chronic disease management
- Pediatric dental and limited adult dental services
- Transportation to and from local and long-distance appointments. This can be for medical, dental, mental health, or substance use disorder treatment. It can also be for picking up prescriptions and medical supplies.
Partnership HealthPlan of California (PHC) administers the Medi-Cal program in Shasta County. Please view their listing on 2-1-1 for more information, including a list of local providers.
Programs related to Medi-Cal include:
- Presumptive Eligibility (PE) - for pregnant women and children. (This may also be referred to as HPE, PE4PW and CPE.)
- This is a temporary Medi-Cal program. Provides immediate health care coverage while applying for Medi-Cal. Qualified hospitals and health care centers usually offer this program.
- 250% Working Disabled Program (250% WDP) - for adults with disabilities who work
- Allows one to become eligible for Medi-Cal by paying low monthly premiums based on net countable income. Enroll by calling or visiting an HHSA office listed below.
