Description
Trains and approves Resource Families to care for children/youth who are:
- Dependents of Juvenile Dependency Court
- Wards of the Juvenile Justice System
- Voluntarily placed by their parents.
The commitment ranges from a few weeks to several months or more. Sibling groups are placed together (and stay in their schools) whenever possible. Encourages relatives or non-related extended family members to apply. Resource Families receive funding to help meet the child/youth’s needs. Medi-Cal covers medical/dental care. Provides initial and ongoing training and support.
Resource Families/Caregivers can provide:
- Short-term foster care: For children who need a temporary safe and loving place to live
- Kinship care: For relatives and non-relative extended family members caring for a child
- Legal Guardianship/Adoption: For children/youth in need of permanent families
- Respite care: Providing short-term respite care for other foster/resource families.
