Program: Shasta County HHSA - CalFresh and CFAP

Agency: SHASTA COUNTY HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES AGENCY

Alternate name: Food Stamps, SNAP, California Food Assistance Program

Description
Please note: CalFresh is providing temporary benefits for college studentswww.getcalfresh.org/students.

Provides financial assistance for food. CalFresh (also known as Food Stamps or SNAP) helps families and individuals with limited income buy nutritious foods. Many working individuals qualify, along with SSI recipients. Non-citizens may qualify for food assistance through the California Food Assistance Program (CFAP).

Benefits are provided on an electronic benefit transfer card (EBT card) that is used like an ATM card and accepted at most grocery stores and farmer's markets. To replace a lost EBT card or to find a location that accepts EBT, call EBT Customer Service or visit website: www.ebt.ca.gov.

For updated information, help with a case, or to request an application, call the Customer Service Center. A Community Health Advocate (CHA) is often available on-site to help fill out applications. They travel between offices, so it is ideal to call for an appointment at a Regional Office of one's choice. CHA referrals, or requests for application assistance or resource referral can be received by phone (below) or by email at cha@co.shasta.ca.us.

Provides CalFresh Employment and Training (for single adults) and SparkPoint Academy (for families with children) which offer free employment classes, job preparation and job finding assistance to anyone receiving CalFresh benefits. Contact case manager or visit website for details: www.co.shasta.ca.us/index/hhsa_index/Employ_services/CFET.

Please note: One can now manage and access benefits with BenefitsCal.com
