Description
Provides a program designed to prevent and remedy the abuse, neglect, self-neglect or exploitation of elders and dependent adults who have been harmed or are at risk of harm. The program investigates suspected abuse of elders and dependent adults, establishes linkages to local community agencies, and provides crisis intervention. The program will not remove a client from their home or shelter against their will or force a client to accept services.

Also, the Child Abuse and Adult Protective Services Hotline is available 24 hours, 7 days per week and allows individuals to report elder and dependent adult abuse or exploitation issues including:
  • Physical abuse
  • Financial abuse
  • Psychological abuse (such as verbal harassment, threats, or other intimidating behavior)
  • Neglect or self-neglect
  • Abandonment
  • Abduction or isolation
Names of the reporting parties are confidential and will not be disclosed to the victim, their family, or the alleged abuser.

Program Delivery
Eligibility: - All individuals can make a report regarding an individual that is 60 years and older, and/or a dependent adult that is 18-59 years; Dependent adult must have physical, mental, or developmental disabilities; Those referred must be a resident of Orange County and must be a victim of abuse either by self or by another that occurred in the community
Languages: Interpreter Services Available, Cantonese, Farsi, Mandarin, Spanish, Vietnamese, English
Application Process: Reports can be made by calling the Child Abuse and Adult Protective Services Hotline; If the report meets criteria of abuse, neglect, and/or self-neglect, the report will be referred to APS and an APS social worker will be assigned to investigate
