Program: CalFresh

Agency: Orange County Social Services Agency - Adult Services, Aid Programs, and Public Health Insurance

Resource Number: 8637126
Alternate name: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)/ Food Stamps

Description
Provides a federal nutrition program that helps people of a low-income status purchase the food they need for good health. Households that are eligible will receive a plastic electronic benefit card (EBT) that can be used at most grocery stores when buying food items.

Individuals can use the EBT Map to locate stores where their EBT card can be used.

CalFresh Skimming/Stolen Benefits: CalFresh benefits that are stolen through skimming or scamming must be reported as stolen within 10 days of the loss. Recipients can report the theft through the EBT Hotline or to their county CalFresh office. Recipients will be asked to fill out the EBT 2259 form. Recipients are not required to file a police report. Also, benefits cannot be replaced more than twice in six months.

CalFresh Recipients Losing Monthly Emergency Allotment: As of February 6, 2023, Orange County residents will see lower CalFresh benefits starting in April 2023 due to the federal government’s enactment of the Fiscal Year 2023 Consolidated Appropriations Act. The federal law ends the authority for the state of California to issue CalFresh emergency allotments, effective February 28, 2023. Emergency allotments are an extra benefit in addition to regular CalFresh amounts and that was provided to Orange County residents during the Public Health Emergency. As recipients are paid in arrears, their last emergency allotment will be issued in March payments to their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards.
