Description
A "Conservator of the Person" is appointed by the Probate court to supervise the personal affairs of an individual, including the arrangement for medical needs and ensure the individual has nutritious meals, clothing, safe and adequate housing, personal hygiene and is protected from physical abuse or harm. When an individual is without means, the Probate Court appoints the Commissioner of DSS to be that person's conservator, and the Commissioner delegates the authority to DSS Social Workers to carry out the responsibilities of the position. The delegated DSS Social Worker carries out the COP duties and responsibilities outlined in the CT State Statutes and DSS Regulations. These include, but are not limited to, the management and supervision of the client's personal affairs; overseeing the general custody of the client; establishing the living arrangements that are safe and adequate; giving consent for medical or other professional care, counseling, treatment or other professional services; ensuring that the conserved individual has nutritious meals, clothing, personal hygiene, and is protected from abuse or neglect.
