Description
- Provides employment and training assistance to Public Assistance recipients.

- Places participants in MFIP (Minnesota Family Investment Program), FSET (Food Support Employment and Training) and DWP (Diversionary Work Program) into temporary and permanent unsubsidized jobs.

- Other services available to persons involved in the Work Support Program include: Child care assistance, transportation assistance, tools/equipment/uniforms required by employer, ESL assistance, adult basic education and voice mail answering services.

- Work and Economic Resource Center (WERC): Located at Sabathani Community Center, provides trained staff to assist and direct individuals in their job and housing searches.   Services available include:
  • Computer Access: Type resumes, cover letters and business letters.  Practice and test typing and 10-key skills.  
  • High speed internet access
  • Search for and research jobs online; job search assistance
  • Write and post resumes and cover letters online; send resumes, cover letters, job applications, W-4 forms, etc. to prospective employers
  • Email prospective employers
  • Research companies and the employment market
  • Search for affordable housing; apply for housing
  • Email prospective landlords
  • File for unemployment benefits
  • Complete and file federal and state taxes
  • Fax services; copy machine

Staff located at the WERC can provide training and individual assistance with:
  • Online job search
  • Writing resumes and cover letters
  • Networking
  • Job networking and support groups
  • Cold calling and telephone interviews with employers
  • Interviewing with prospective employers
  • Finding work after prison
  • Finding work regardless of possible barriers, such as criminal backgrounds, age discrimination, etc.
  • Creating portfolios
  • 'Elevator' speeches (a clear, brief message or 'commercial' about a job applicant, i.e., who they are, what they are looking for and how an applicant can benefit a company or organization)
  • Additional resources for job training and education including the Minnesota Workforce Center classes and community organizations offering job training programs; community resources for other basic needs
