  • These assessment responses will be shared with local EMAs, Red Cross, and other community partners who have been identified as helpers in this specific disaster. Additionally 211 will be able to share additional resources to these families by text message.

VOLUNTEER Info
  • Coosa County VRC (Volunteer Reception Center)
    • Location: Rehobeth United Methodist Church, 664 County Rd. 18, Equality.
      • Next workday is MARCH 4th from 8:30 am – 2:00 pm
      • Volunteers are asked to bring chainsaws, heavy equipment, rakes and shovels to help move debris to the curbside. Volunteers will need to wear long work pants, closed toe shoes, and work gloves (under 18yo needs to come with a parent/guardian)

Coosa County - Disaster Recovery Center
FEMA and the state of Alabama are opening disaster recovery centers to assist tornado survivors. The centers will provide one-on-one help to people affected by the Jan.12 severe storms, straight-line winds, and tornadoes. Recovery specialists from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration will be available to provide information on available services, explain assistance programs and help survivors complete or check the status of their applications for assistance.

  • INDIVIDUALS: The fastest way to apply is through DisasterAssistance.gov. You can also apply through the FEMA mobile app or by calling 1-800-621-3362 -- 6AM to 10PM Central Time.
    • Alabama homeowners and renters in COOSA county who were affected by the severe storms, straight-line winds and tornadoes that occurred Jan. 12, 2023, may apply for FEMA disaster assistance.
    • If you need a reasonable accommodation or assistance filling out your FEMA application, please call 833-283-7448 or TTY 800-462-7585.
    • FEMA disaster grants are not taxable income. Accepting a FEMA grant will not affect eligibility for Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and other federal welfare and entitlement programs.
    • Disaster grants help survivors pay for temporary housing, essential home repairs, essential personal property replacement and other serious disaster-related needs not covered by insurance or other sources.
      • When you apply for assistance, have the following information ready: 
        • A current phone number where you can be contacted
        • Your address at the time of the disaster and the address where you are now staying
        • Your Social Security number
        • A general list of damage and losses
        • Banking information if you choose direct deposit
        • If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name
        • Take photos to document damage and begin cleanup and repairs to prevent further damage.
        • Remember to keep receipts from all purchases related to the cleanup and repair.

        • Rental Assistance for Temporary Housing - rent, security deposit, essential utilities (electricity and water) IF your primary residence was made uninhabitable
        • Lodging Expense Reimbursement - lodging expenses for hotels, motels, or other reasonable short-term lodging IF applicant is displaced from their primary residence and FEMA verifies that a primary residence is uninhabitable
        • Major Repairs and Out-of-Pocket Expenses - intended to meet the basic needs of your household, not to restore your home and all your personal property items to a pre-tornado condition. structural parts of your home (windows, doors, floors, walls, ceilings, cabinets, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system, utilities (electrical, plumbing and gas systems), and entrance/exit ways, furnace, well and septic system

      • FEMA cannot duplicate assistance provided by another source, such as insurance settlements.
