Description Update: Local Department of Social Services (DSS) offices may be closed or only open for limited services due to COVID-19, visit https://dhs.maryland.gov/local-offices/ for updated information. Residents can get information, apply for DHS programs and services, and check the status of applications online on the myMDTHINK website, https://mymdthink.maryland.gov/home/#/ or by calling the main line. If someone has a myDHR account, they can use the same User ID and password to log into the myMDTHINK website. When a client receives a redetermination packet in the mail, they can submit it online right away using the new “Redetermination” feature when they log into their account. If someone currently receives benefits and has a change in their household's circumstances, such as a new address, someone moving in or out, or an increase or decrease in income, they can report this information on-line. A paper application may also be mailed or faxed to the resident's local Department of Social Services Office. OVERVIEW: Oversees and administers all state social services programs.

SERVICES:

ADOPTION: Provides information on all aspects of adoption. 

CHILD SUPPORT ENFORCEMENT: Provides information regarding child support.

FOSTER CARE: Provides information on all aspects of foster care. 

INDEPENDENCE CARD: Advises individuals to call local Department of Social Services (DSS) office. Individuals who need to change their SNAP benefits information should contact their case manager at their local office.

PRIMARY PREVENTION INITIATIVE (PPI): Answers questions about PPI, Maryland's program to promote preventive health care, immunizations, and school attendance for all TCA children.

PROJECT RETAIN: Strengthens job success for low wage workers by offering local support services and job retention activities. Helps employers keep workers on the job.
