OVERVIEW: Provides support services to seniors and individuals with mental health issues in the community.
SERVICES: 1) FRIENDLY VISITOR PROGRAM: Offers friendship and support to home bound elderly individuals who are isolated and lonely due to physical or emotional concerns.
2) ADULT HOMELESS MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES: Offers case management and ongoing assistance to formerly homeless adults who are living independently through The Shelter Plus Care and New Neighbors components of the program.
3) KENSINGTON-WHEATON YOUTH SERVICES: See separate listing.
4) HOPES: Offers a 24-hour telephone hotline, which provides confidential crisis and suicide intervention, prevention & post-intervention. Offers supportive listening; information and referral & depression and suicide awareness education to youth and adults.
5) REPRESENTATIVE PAYEE PROGRAM: Provides financial supervision for adults who receive a government benefit that they are unable to manage because of a physical or mental disability.
6) VOICES VS VIOLENCE: Offers violence prevention workshops for families, after school violence prevention programs for youth and presentations to parents, community members and professionals on bullying and gang prevention, stress management and anger management. The program also offers a 10 week comprehensive program for 12-18 year old who are first or repeat misdemeanor offenders. Kids on the Block educational puppet troupe presentation to preschool & elementary aged children.
7) COMMUNITY OUTREACH: Provides mental health literature at health fairs and conducts educational events throughout the year.
8) PLACES FOR PEOPLE: Provides residential services to eligible persons, to assist them with locating individual or group housing, Case management also offered.
