Description OVERVIEW: Provides support services for Prince George's County public school students. Also provides alternative education at select locations, and family support services including Adult Basic Education, ESL and GED instruction via the Judy Hoyer Family Learning Center (see separate listing).

SERVICES:
1) ACADEMIC PROGRAMS: Provides leadership and a comprehensive support system for improving curriculum and instruction to achieve excellence and to comply with national, state and local standards. Call Dr. Judith J. White, Director of Academic Programs at 301-808-5956.

2) STUDENT SERVICES: Provides guidance counseling, psychological, health and student personnel services for students with personal/career concerns or significant problems with attendance, achievement and/or behavior. Call Gwendolyn J. Mason, Associate Superintendent of Student Services, at 301-952-6384.

3) SPECIAL EDUCATION: Provides appropriate education for children from birth to age 21 in need of special services because of cognitive, emotional or physical disabilities. Students receive special services for part or all of a school day in general education, early childhood centers, resource rooms, separate classes, or regional centers. Call Trinell M. 4) HOMELESS EDUCATION: Parents who are homeless should contact their Homeless Education Liaison to assist their child in attaining proper support and education. Call Natasha White-Jones, Homeless Education Supervisor, at 301-952-2482 or email Homeless.Education@pgcps.org.

5) FOOD & NUTRITION SERVICES: Offers free or reduced fee breakfast and lunch programs to students who qualify. The income guidelines are set by the federal government and have been adopted across the state. Call 301-952-6580.

Free or reduced-price meals are available to students based on household size and income (see chart below). If income falls below the amount listed below for household size, then students living within the household may qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Students are automatically eligible for free meals if the family receives assistance under the Food Supplement Program, Medicaid, or Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) benefits.

To apply, families must complete a new Application for Free and Reduced-Price Meals at the beginning of each school year. Students and their families do not have to be U.S. citizens to receive meal benefits. All students in the family should be listed on one application.

Applications are sent home with students the first week of school. Applications are available at all PGCPS schools, and can be submitted at any time.

Completed applications can be turned in to any PGCPS school or the Department of Food and Nutrition Services in person or by U.S. mail.

Volunteer Requirements 18 and older.
Volunteer Duties Serve as classroom aides, trip chaperons, clerical assistants to teachers or administrators, tutors or read aloud to students. Interested individuals should contact individual schools for opportunities.
