SERVICE COORDINATION: Provides home visiting services for first time moms and their babies until they are two years old. To qualify for the Baltimore City Health Department’s Maternal and Infant Care’s Nurse Family Partnership (NFP), participants must live in Baltimore City, be 28 weeks or less pregnant and be age 13-24. The three goals of the program are to improve pregnancy outcomes, child health and development and economic self-sufficiency of the family.
Parents receives guidance on having a healthy pregnancy, developmental milestones for the baby, and linkages to other programs. Education is also provided on effects of smoking, alcohol and drugs, preparing for labor and delivery, postpartum depression; parent/child relationships, intimate partner violence, environmental and home safety, pregnancy planning, and immunizations.
Provides referrals for medical and dental care, mental health counseling, job readiness and career planning, housing, WIC services, developmental intervention, social services and other community services. The Maternal and Infant Care Program also completes verification documents for families who choose to have their babies at home. Upon completing verification, required documents are submitted to the State of Maryland and a birth certificate is issued.
