Resource Details
Alternate Name Anne Arundel County DSS, Adult Protective Services
Description INVESTIGATES: Serves vulnerable adults, persons 18 years of age and older who lack the physical or mental capacity to provide for their daily needs and/or who are unable to protect their own interest, health, safety and welfare, and to prevent neglect, abuse or exploitation.

AADSS investigates allegations of abuse, neglect and/or exploitation and arranges for services to remedy the situation. Adults at-risk of endangerment are those who are maltreated, including deprived of food, clothing, adequate shelter, and/or who lack essential medical care and the capacity to meet their needs. Legal mandates require adults in neglect cases to be seen within 5 business days and in emergency cases within 24 hours. If no family member or individual is available to serve as guardian, AADSS will seek to be appointed as guardian for persons under age 65 when necessary to protect the vulnerable adult. The local Department of Aging may be appointed as guardian of adults 65 years of age and older.
