Description
|
SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD: Food benefits are provided monthly to eligible low-income households that allows them to purchase food from participating stores. Clients are given an independence card similar to a bank debit card to access benefits.
EXPEDITED FOOD STAMPS: Applicants who are eligible for food stamps may receive them within seven days if their resources are less than $100 and gross monthly income is less than $150 for the past month, or if their income and resources are less than their monthly housing cost. Migrant/seasonal workers and qualified aliens may be eligible for food stamp benefits and should call for more information on eligibility requirements.
APPLICATION: Applicants must file an application, be interviewed, and meet all financial and technical eligibility factors prior to issuance of FSP benefits. Some people who have little or no money may qualify for Expedited Food Supplement benefits right away. They must have only an interview and verify identity. File an application with your Local Department of Social Services. You may also file an application by mail, fax, or go to https://mydhrbenefits.dhr.state.md.us to apply online.
ELIGIBILITY: The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps, helps low-income households buy the food they need for good health. Everyone has the right to apply for SNAP. Click here to download the Income Guidelines
Interviews for benefits can be completed in the office, by telephone, or virtually.
