Description OVERVIEW: An in patient facility for mentally ill adults 18 and older that offers a comprehensive psychiatric program that is designed to help individuals return to the most appropriate community setting.  NOTE: All admissions are coordinated and directed through a centralized admissions office based at Spring Grove Hospital.  No community referrals accepted.

SERVICES:
1) CASE MANAGEMENT: Provides individual treatment planning and dual diagnosis services to patients and their families or significant others while in the program. Also conducts psychosocial assessments and work with the patient, family and mental health providers to devise discharge plans, which address housing, psychiatric, somatic, financial, educational/vocational, and social needs of the clients and resolution of patient legal issues.

2) CARE: Provides psychiatric, psychological, nursing, social work, pharmaceutical, occupational therapy, physical therapy and therapeutic recreation services to all patients as determined by the individual treatment plan. Medical and dental services are consulted out into the community. Psychiatric and nursing services available 24 hours each day.

3) THERAPY: Psychologists offer individual and group counseling for adults and seniors. Specialties include eating disorders, forensic evaluations, marital and family counseling, men or women's issues, Neuropsychological evaluations, personality and intelligence testing, and consulting in the community.

4) REHABILITATION: Services focus on developing daily-living skills. Occupational Therapy includes problem solving, self-care, social skills, community living skills, and vocational skills. Recreation Therapy includes leisure skills, health and wellness, community leisure, fitness, socialization within the community.
 
Coverage Area We are directed to take any patient from any detention center in the state of Maryland. For the most part we generally receive patients from Carroll County, west to Garrett County.

Physical Location Description 10 unit facility on state property in Western Maryland. Only 4 units are utilized for inpatient psychiatric care / ALP. Other units are either rented out or used for therapy / office space / storage.

Application Process Referral admission coordinated through a centralized admissions office in concert with all county detention centers, district and circuit courts.
Documents Required Court orders for evaluation/tx. Occasionally will take a certified patient from a detention center if the situation is acute.

Normal Wait Times Central Office has 10 days to place patient once court order is signed.
