Description
|
OVERVIEW: Provides legal representation to income eligible individuals who have been arrested or summoned for a criminal offense.
SERVICES:
1) INCARCERATED CLIENT: Incarcerated clients will first meet with a commissioner to determine eligibility. If a client has not seen a commissioner prior to incarceration, a family member or the client should contact the public defender’s office for further instruction.
2) "ON THE STREET" CLIENT: Clients who are out on bail, on the own recognizance, or charged with a jailable offense must contact one of the following District Court Commissioner’s Offices at:

District Court of Maryland 900 Walker Avenue Catonsville, MD 21228-5380
The hours of operation for both commissioner office locations are 24 hours/7 days a week INTAKE DOCUMENTATION: Clients must bring identification, case number (s), charging documents (summary of charges, summons), and verification of income for the last 30 days (2 pay stubs if paid biweekly, 4 if paid weekly). If no income, bring award letters (social security, food stamps, or other public assistance) to the interview.
Clients may complete the application prior to arriving at the commissioner’s office.
