UPDATE: The Maryland Department of Labor is offering limited virtual-kiosk services for questions regarding Unemployment Insurance claim by appointment only. Contact the call center at 667-207-6520 to schedule an appointment. To reach a live claims agent, call or use the Virtual Assistant’s Live Chat feature during normal hours of operation. At the time of appointment, individuals should be in a location where there is no interruptions and there is access to BEACON portal.

UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE BENEFITS ASSISTANCE: Provides temporary, partial wage replacement for eligible persons. General information and answers to frequently asked questions re: benefits can be accessed online.
- This program is for people who have worked in the past 18 months. This service can be completed over the phone or via the Internet. The caller must know their social security number and information about their employment for the last 18 months (dates of employment, address of company). If they have dependent children under the age of 16 they must also know those children's date of birth and social security number. If they are a legal alien they must know their registration number. An automated telephone information line is available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. Callers will be able to get general information about how to:
o Find the closest unemployment insurance office near your home.
o File a claim for unemployment insurance.
o Fill out a bi-weekly claim certification to request payment (telecert).
o File for benefits if you worked in another state in the last 18 months, but live in Maryland.
o File for benefits if you worked for the Federal Government or served in the military in the last 18 months.
Callers will also be able to get information about denial of benefits and appeal rights.
