Description Supplemental heating assistance benefit for a household's primary source of heat for low-income households. This includes electric, gas, wood, or pellets. Submit applications to HRC in Missoula between October 1 and April 30. Renters and homeowners are eligible to apply. The Human Resource Council can help LIHEAP eligible homeowners deal with emergencies related to their heating source and/or possibly their hot water heater like relighting a pilot light for example.

Missoula Water gives a monthly credit to LIHEAP eligible household with an account in their name. Missoula Electric Co-op gives a discount to their customers who heat with electricity, from the date of LIHEAP eligibility until the end of each program year.

Household income limits are based on the federal poverty guidelines, and individuals can call 406-728-3710 for the guidelines and application. Applications can also be downloaded from the DPHHS website HERE.

Application Process Applications are available online at: https://dphhs.mt.gov/hcsd/energyassistance/ You may also request an application be mailed to you by calling the District XI Human Resource Council at: 406-728-3710, or pick up an application in person at: 1801 S. Higgins Ave. in Missoula or at 316 N. Third in Hamilton.
Documents Required Must provide information on all residents of the dwelling. Must ensure all residents 16 or older have signed Section 9 of the form. Must include copy of all energy bills indicated by the form. Must include copies of proof of gross income for all members of household regardless of age or relationship. Must include copies of proof of all out-of-pocket health insurance premiums paid by a household member for themselves or other household member. Must include copy of photo ID's for all household members/copy of birth certificates for household members under 18 without an ID. Must include a copy of SSN, proof of citizenship or qualified alien status.
