Help for Tompkins County individuals, homeless or in danger of becoming homeless, in finding safe and secure housing and financial means to keep it. Outreach and prevention case managers help shelter residents with: - support
- information and referral
- landlord/tenant mediation
- housing solutions for homeless individuals staying at the shelter
For emergency shelter: FIRST call or visit Department of Social Services (DSS) Special Services Unit during business hours. (8:30 am -5 pm). Eligible individuals will be referred directly to the shelter from DSS.
After 5 pm, individuals must call IPD 607-272-3245 and have them connect them with DSS Special Services on-call staff.
Cold weather: If the temperature is below 32 degrees F, individuals needing shelter, even if they have children and/or are ineligible for DSS services, should come to the shelter, or call 607-354-8990 - Pets- only documented emotional support pets allowed, exception if a family member will pay pet fees to the hotel (Econo Lodge(
- Belongings- clients are allowed TWO bags ( suitcases, duffle and or backpack)
- Room mates- likely to have roommates under cold weather policy, exception for familes with children
- Transportation=- bus passes and shuttle available between shelter sites
- Food- Warm meals provided at all sites, pantry is open 6a-6p
