Programs include:
  • Food Stamps (SNAP): additional monthly benefits to purchase food. Income and resource standards vary according to age, health, household size and household expenditures.  
  • grandparents and other relatives raising relatives' children:  may be eligible for a public assistance grant based only on the child's income and resources. Apply at Temporary Assistance and Food Stamps
  • security deposits in form of agreement letter to landlords
  • Furniture/Bedding- can fill out a Furniture Request Form (Must have open case, can complete intake and open a new case)
Programs ONLY  for individuals with open Temporary Assistance cases:
  • car repair: one-time grant for income-eligible individuals entering or re-entering the work force and needing a vehicle to get to work. Car repair funds can also be obtained by applying through the regular public assistance process.
  • car insurance: may be available in extreme circumstances. Requirements:
    • full intake appointment
    • employment
    • only one car in household
    • off bus route
    • risk of insurance termination
  • transportation assistance: individuals on temporary assistance who find jobs and need transportation funds to get to and from work before receiving their first paycheck may be eligible.
  • transportation to Social Security Disability hearings:  bus pass. Client must:
    • provide information at least three days before hearing
    • leave copy of hearing notice, plus his/her phone number, addressed to Amy Mills, at DSS front desk. She arrangements for  trip.
