Description
Serves as the regional point of entry for persons who present with an intellectual or developmental disability in the Seven Counties service area. Provides a variety of support services, including information and referral, service coordination, short-term crisis response, a resource manual, linkages to community resources, and short-term emergency respite services for individuals with developmental disabilities. Performs Michelle P. Waiver assessments, as well as Case Management and Support Brokers services for the Consumer Directed Option under the Michelle P. Waiver. The Michelle P. Waiver is a home- and community-based waiver under the Kentucky Medicaid program developed as an alternative to institutional care for individuals with developmental disabilities, allowing individuals to remain in their homes with services and supports.

The FSS team also works closely with the Developmental Services Adult Crisis Response Grant, which provides a variety of crisis stabilization supports for individuals ages 18 and older with intellectual developmental disabilities that are experiencing a behavioral or psychiatric emergency or are in need of immediate intensive support. Family Support Services dispatches a Crisis Prevention and Response Team 24/7. This team assists individuals with a developmental/intellectual disability who are in crisis, including all emotional crises, risk of homelessness, etc.
