Description
Recruits and trains volunteers to visit long-term care facilities. Ombudsmen receive, investigate, and attempt to resolve complaints. Ombudsmen work with residents, family members, and facility staff.

Considers patient rights, quality of care, abuse, physical environment, and other related issues. Advocates for better care for all elders. Serves as a witness for nursing home residents signing their durable power of attorney for healthcare services.

Provides information and advice to those considering long-term care or trying to choose a facility. Provides advice and assistance with discharge planning for clients leaving long-term care.

Also provides training to nursing home personnel and develops resident councils.
