Description
CONSUMER ISSUES: Offers individual complaint handling and dispute resolution with landlords and businesses. Enforces the County's consumer protection laws, provides consumer specialists to assist with questions on consumer-merchant or landlord-tenant issues, trespass towing, peddling & soliciting (door to door sales), and complaint histories of merchants. Before filing a complaint, consumer should have tried to resolve issue with business first. If not resolved, file a complaint online and provide Office of Consumer Protection with copies of all relevant documents. Offers landlord-tenant dispute resolution revolving only around monetary issues such application fees, inappropriate eviction/non-renewal, illegal lease provisions, or security deposit disputes. Does not take complaints involving habitability (living condition or nonworking systems). Licenses & regulates trespass tow, peddling, and soliciting. Provides outreach and education on consumer-merchant or landlord-tenant issues.
