Description
State agency helps Connecticut residents train for and find jobs and helps businesses build and upgrade their work forces by providing recruiting, consulting, and training services. Agency also protects people on the job and consults with employers on labor practices, including educating about and enforcing statutes relating to the payment of wages, health and safety, employment of minors, family and medical leaves, representation by labor organizations, and resolution of labor disputes. DOL also manages the unemployment compensation insurance program for people between jobs. As the Connecticut arm of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, DOL collects, analyzes and disseminates work force data to inform businesses, citizens, and others of employment issues and trends. Job training and employment services are provided at American Job Centers in partnership with workforce investment boards, the State Department of Education, State Department of Higher Education, and contracted community based providers (see separate listing for American Job Centers).
