Program: Subsidized Rental Housing Funding/Administration

Agency: HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT, UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF

Resource Number: 17320739
Description

HUD administers funding for many subsidized housing programs. Subsidized housing may be in the form of Section 8 Housing Choice vouchers which are portable subsidies that enable tenants to find their own apartments, and take the subsidy with them when they move. Subsidies may also be non-portable subsidies which are linked to a specific building. People with most non-portable subsidies do not take the subsidy with them when they move out of the project-based apartment.

Note: Individuals seeking Emergency housing vouchers must go through the CAN process and should not reach out to the administrative department or individual housing authorities.
