Program: Matching Payment Program (MPP)

Agency: EVERSOURCE ENERGY - ELECTRIC UTILITY

Resource Number: 17326091
Alternate name: Utility assistance; Utility assistance;

Description

Payment Program helps limited income Eversource Energy customers, who have electricity or gas as their primary heating source, maintain year-round service and pay down a delinquent balance by awarding credits down to a zero balance when the customer pays their agreed-upon payment arrangement each month. Program matches payments of customers who have been approved for "hardship" status and are receiving energy assistance from CEAP or Operation Fuel. For every dollar paid on the eligible customer's account, Eversource Energy will reduce their bill with a matching payment. During Phase I of the program (11/1-4/30), if a customer misses one or more monthly payments, he/she will not be removed from the program as long as all missed payments are paid by 4/30. Payments made by 4/30 are matched on or about 5/1. During Phase II of the program (5/1-10/31), customers can not miss any payments. If one payment is missed during Phase II, the customer is removed from the program and will receive a shut off notice. Payments made by 10/31 are matched on or about 11/1. For more information on programs and payment plans that may be able to help, individuals can visit Eversource.com/BillHelp.

NOTE: 2-1-1 Contact Specialists are also allowed to use the Hotline number to call on behalf of Eversource customers who are unable to pay their utility bill arrearage or any security deposit added to their account. Please use the number sparingly and keep in mind that Eversource will need income verification from a Community Action Agency or town social services in order to certify the customer for Hardship status.

_______________________________________________

Eversource asks that 2-1-1 have customers ask for a supervisor before being referred to PURA. In many cases, supervisors can resolve problems without PURA intervention.

If a customer is on the MPP and cannot afford the "budget payment" established by the utility, they are entitled to go to their CAA agency and have a lower budget payment calculated. (if the utility was turned off they aren’t on MPP and not eligible – also for an electric account there is no lower budget payment to calculate since the budget is already reduced because of the low income discount rate)

Eligibility:
Must be on Matching Payment Program

Note to Call Specialists: MPP program applications take around ten days to process. Please encourage callers to submit applications by April 20 to insure they are enrolled in the program by May 1.
