Description
Children's legal services agency promotes the rights and interests of low income children whose care is provided by Connecticut's judicial, child welfare, health, mental health, education, and juvenile justice systems. Legal assistance is provided to individual children and youth for issues involving abuse, neglect, placement, education, homelessness, immigration, racial justice, special education, and mental and physical health, access to benefits. Included are a) homeless youth; b) youth on re-entry from juvenile justice facilities; and c) children in grades K-2 who are suspended from school. Does not represent children who already have a lawyer; it also does not represent parents or other adults who have legal custody of a child. Representation is for children only, or for children who are part of a "family with service needs" as designated by juvenile court. Services provided for children from Hartford, Bridgeport, New Haven, Norwalk, and Stamford; or statewide for any youth re-entering the community from out-of-home placement.
