Provides limited legal assistance in qualifying civil cases to those without attorneys if they have a case in the Sacramento County court or reside in Sacramento County.

SH@LL can assist with limited types of cases. Some examples of common cases they assist with include:

  • Simple complaints for and answers to breach of contract lawsuits
  • Simple complaints for and answers to personal injury and property damage lawsuits
  • Enforcement of Judgment
  • Motions to Set Aside Default
  • Motions to Extend Time for Service
  • Name Changes and Gender Changes
  • Confidential Safe At Home Name Changes
  • Requests for Entry of Default
  • Oppositions to Civil Forfeitures
  • Claims of Exemption from Wage Garnishment or Bank Levy
  • Motions to and Oppositions to Motions to Compel Discovery
  • Motions to Pay in Installments
  • Oppositions to Motions to Deem Admissions Admitted and for Sanctions
  • Guardianship of the Person Only (obtaining guardianship of a minor)
  • Conservatorship of the Person Only (will be pre-screened for eligibility)
  • Case Management Statements
  • Petition for Succession, Spousal Property Petition, and Small Estate Affidavits

Program Delivery
Eligibility: Any Sacramento County resident or self-represented litigant with a case in Sacramento County Superior Court. Must not have a lawyer and must not be deemed by the court to be a vexatious litigant.

SH@LL is not able to assist people in representing a corporation or in lawsuits against a government entity.

Application Process: All assistance is provided by phone. Call and leave a detailed voicemail to request a phone appointment. The call will be returned within 5 business days and if a person's case is deemed eligible, a longer phone appointment/consultation will be scheduled.
