Description

Provides temporary financial assistance including help with rent, groceries, and toiletries. Offers travel assistance for returning to a former place of residence. Requires employable recipients to seek work and repay loans.
Administers welfare to work programs for CalWORKs recipients to overcome barriers to employment. Provides assessments and customized care plans. Offers training, counseling, education, and work experience. Assists with child care and transportation for participants attending approved activities.
Housing Support: HSP is available to families receiving CalWORKs (cash aid) who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness. The program may provide monetary assistance to secure permanent housing, such as security and/or utility deposits, application fees, credit repair payments (due to late/delinquent rental or public utility accounts), and/or short-term rental assistance. For families at risk of homelessness, the program may assist with up to 3 months of back rent, including the current month plus the 2 previous months. A referral to HSP must be requested by the family contacting their assigned HSA eligibility worker (FSR) or their employment and training (E&T) worker.
