Offers free public access to legal information for attorneys and the general public. The library contains information on common legal topics such as:

  • Civil cases and appeals
  • Criminal law and expungements
  • Family law, including divorce, custody, and support
  • Landlord/tenant issues
  • Employment law, including workers’ compensation and unemployment
  • Estate planning, probate, wills, trusts, and inheritances
  • Public benefits

  • Homeownership and deed-related information

Services:

  • Reference Librarians: Available to assist patrons whenever the library is open. Can help locate the best materials for patrons' research and instruct patrons on the use of the printer and electronic resources. Cannot give legal advice or opinions and cannot interpret case law, statutes, regulations, or any other types of documents.
  • Saclaw.org: Offers free legal information, including online guides to common legal procedures and topics; forms for common legal matters; and videos on court procedures, such as filing a new civil suit, preparing for trial, serving court documents, the court-required “Conservatorship Video,” and more.
  • Legal Databases: Provides free access to a number of legal research databases. Most databases can be accessed in the library only.
  • Borrowing: Offers several programs that allow attorneys and Sacramento County residents to borrow materials.
  • Document Delivery: Provides copies of documents on request. Requestors must provide an exact citation; library staff cannot conduct research.
  • Interlibrary Loan (ILL): Can arrange to borrow materials from other libraries for patrons.
  • Passports: Offers passport-related services.
