Description
Investigates crimes against children under the age of 18. A child abuse case may involve infant death, physical abuse, child molestation, neglect, child annoyance, and indecent exposure cases.
Initial reports are generated by patrol officers or childcare coordinators (such as teachers, daycare providers, foster parents, group homes, etc.), health practitioners, child protective agencies, and commercial film and photographic print processors. These people are required by law to report all cases of suspected child abuse, neglect, or assault. Handles physical abuse to age 18 and sexual abuse to age 13. Sexual abuse after age 14 is handled by the Sexual and Elder Abuse section. Abuse by family members may be referred to Child Protective Services.
