 Description

Sacramento County is a state-licensed adoption agency. Program staff assess if adoption is the best plan for the child and ensure that the child and adoptive family are well-matched.

Services provided:

  • Assessment of the child’s needs and capabilities.
  • Compiling the child’s social and medical history.
  • Determining and recommending to the Juvenile Court whether parental rights should be terminated.
  • Establishing whether the child is legally free for adoption.
  • Conducting home study evaluations of adoptive parents.
  • Coordinating placement of a child in a family that will meet the child's needs.

Relinquishment services are not provided through this program.

Program Delivery
Eligibility: For a prospective adoptive parent(s) to adopt a child, the following is required:
- The child must be in the home for six months
- Parental rights are terminated (with the appeal process over)
- The adopting family has an approved home study
- Adoptive placement papers are signed
Languages: Most languages by arrangement, website translation available, American Sign Language Interpreter available on request, Spanish, English
