Description

Offers free transit for youth and students in grades TK through 12. The program includes SacRT buses, light rail, and SmaRT Ride on-demand microtransit services.

If your school district or school isn't listed, there is no SacRT service to your school. But you can still use your RydeFreeRT card with a sticker to go to the movies, visit the mall, check out a museum, or head to the park.

Program Hours:
SacRT Customer Service: Monday through Friday, 6:30 am - 6 pm, Saturdays, Sundays, 7 am - 4 pm

Program Delivery
Eligibility: Available for any youth that lives or goes to school within SacRT’s service area, which includes the cities of Sacramento, Elk Grove, Folsom, Citrus Heights, Rancho Cordova, and parts of Sacramento County.

Youth who are experiencing homelessness or taking part in foster programs are also allowed to participate in the program, regardless of current residence or school address.

Note: The RydeFreeRT program does not apply to those over 18 years old that are pursuing their GED.
Languages: Sign Language assistance is available through the Accessible Services department upon request, English
Application Process: To ride free, students need to show a valid RydeFreeRT card when boarding a bus or if asked by a fare inspector on light rail.

The new card is valid from June 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026. Youth who are experiencing homelessness or taking part in foster programs are also allowed to participate in the program, regardless of current residence or school address.

New cards are available at schools, school districts, local libraries, and the SacRT Customer Service Center at 1225 R Street (adjacent to the 13th Street light rail station).
