Description

Offers free transit for youth in TK through 12th grade. Eligible students can ride the entire SacRT transit network, including buses and light rail, for free. Students can use the pass to get to and from school, or for any other transportation needs they may have outside of school hours or during school breaks.

Customer Service/Call Center: Monday through Friday, 7 am - 5:30 pm; Saturdays, Sundays, 7 am - 4 pm;
Sales Center: Monday through Friday, 9 am - 5 pm

Program Delivery
Eligibility: Students in TK through 12th grade who live or go to school within SacRT's service area. Service area includes the cities of Sacramento, Elk Grove, Folsom, Citrus Heights, Rancho Cordova, and parts of Sacramento County.

Youth who are experiencing homelessness or taking part in foster programs are allowed to participate in the program, regardless of current residence or school address.

Youth over the age of 18 who are pursuing their GED are not eligible for the program.
Languages: Sign Language assistance is available through the Accessible Services department upon request, English
Application Process: To ride free, students can show their valid RydeFreeRT card to the operator when boarding the bus or when asked to show fare on the light rail.

New cards are distributed by schools and school districts before summer break. Students can get a card anytime of the year by visiting the SacRT Customer Service and Sales Center or a Sacramento County Public Library. The currently issued RydeFreeRT card is valid from June 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027.
