A free, virtual service that helps low-income households file their taxes. IRS-certified tax preparers from the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program prepare and file federal and state tax returns for 2023 through 2025.

GetYourRefund also offers File Myself, free online tax-filing software for current-year taxes (a household's income in 2025 must be under $89,000).

Program Delivery
Eligibility: For tax filing assistance, the household's income in 2025 must be under $69,000.

The following are not eligible:
- Married filing separately
- Clergy
- Rental income
- Cancellation of debt (other than non-business credit card debt)
- Bankruptcy
- Self-employment with expenses of more than $35,000 or inventory (app-based work, such as driving for Uber/Doordash or shopping for InstaCart, is classified as contract work/self-employment)
- Military personnel and spouses

Application Process: 1. Visit the website and click "Get Started." Answer intake questions, and upload identification and tax documents.
2. A tax team will text or email the individual with next steps.
3. The tax preparer will prepare the individual's tax return.
4. A second tax preparer will complete a quality review of the return. The individual can review the paperwork, refund amount, and ask questions.
5. The individual will sign the tax forms electronically.
6. The tax preparer will submit the taxes to the IRS.
7. If needed, the tax preparer can assist with any next steps regarding the return.
