Peer support groups and healthy grief work through art therapy for children grieving the death of a loved one who died during the past year. Children are placed in groups according to age, circumstances of the death and relationship to the deceased. Teen groups (ages 11 - 17) consistently available. Groups meet bi-weekly for 10 sessions and are facilitated by a professional art therapist with assistance from trained volunteers. Two-month or more waiting list.

Program Delivery
Eligibility: Ages 4 - 17, grieving the death of a significant person within the past year. Sutter patients and family members have priority.
Availability: Up to 1 time every 1 year(s).
Languages: Spanish speaking staff at Sacramento site with parents not in children's groups, English
Application Process: Telephone intake by parent/legal guardian.

Volunteering: Volunteer opportunities are available.
Volunteer requirements: High school senior or older. Must commit to at least one year of service. Experience with children and visual arts. Personal grief issues are in a healthy place.
Volunteer duties: Room and art material set up. CBAG therapist assigns duties, for example, special help for shy/younger clients or restless/active clients. Cleanup of room and materials. Assists therapist with documentation of client progress in the sessions. Must attend at least 2 of the 4 volunteer meetings per year.
