Description

Provides 24-hour shelter in the community with an average 90-day stay that includes meals, clothing, and transportation assistance for youth ages 18-24.

Youths will receive assistance from case managers, mental health clinicians, and advocates to obtain identification documents, access medical, mental health, and emotional support services, and navigate the next step in their transition to more permanent housing.

Program Delivery
Eligibility: To be placed into the shelter, individuals must:
• Be 18 to 24 years old
• Be LGBTQ or LGBTQ-affirming/ally
• Be literally homeless
• Have no children, but pregnant individuals are allowed
• Be able to independently care for one’s activities of daily living, including feeding oneself, maintaining hygiene, and taking medication on their own
• Be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination at intake. If missing a booster, must be willing to get a booster after shelter intake

Pets and service/emotional support animals are considered (documentation is required).
Languages: American Sign Language Interpreter available on request, Spanish, English
Application Process: Entry into the STEP House shelter is accessible via the Coordinated Access System (CAS). Those who are literally homeless can call 211 Sacramento to complete a shelter survey, which is entered into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS). When bed availability opens, 211 will facilitate placement into the shelter based on the eligibility requirements of the shelter site.

In addition, an Online Housing Inquiry form may be completed at the agency website. A Shelter Coordinator will contact the client and determine whether eligibility requirements are met and share that information with 211.
