FREED serves people in Nevada, Sierra, Yuba, Sutter, and Colusa counties. For services in Placer, El Dorado, or Alpine counties, see Placer Independent Resource Services (PIRS)

Assists people in making informed decisions about their short or long–term care needs as a lead agency for the Aging and Disability Resource Connection (ADRC.)

Provides assistance with tools and devices to support daily living including an Equipment Reuse Program, a Device Lending Library, and a Vendor Services Directory.

Makes minor home repairs and modifications that support seniors and people with disabilities through the Fix It Program.

Offers Benefits Counseling, planning to help sharpen Independent Living Skills, and Youth Services including advocacy and information around education plans at school as well as a connection to the statewide Youth Leadership Forum.

Features access to computers and the Internet, a Friendly Visitors Program, advocacy, information and referral to help answer questions about disability related issues, Personal Assistant Referrals, peer support groups including a Cross Disability Support Group, Transition Assistance, and a Voucher Program for people living in Yuba or Sutter County who would like discounted bus fare.

FREED is a disability and aging resource center providing services to residents of a five county area: Nevada, Sierra, Yuba, Sutter and Colusa Counties.  FREED’s funders include Agency on Aging Area 4,  California Department of Rehabilitation, US Administration of Community Living, SCAN Foundation, Dignity Health Foundation, Mental Health Services Act, California Department of Health Care Services, Nevada County, and City of Yuba City.

FREED’s Mission is to eliminate barriers to full equality for people with disabilities through programs which promote independent living and effect systems change, while honoring dignity and self determination. FREED is a gateway to expanded choices and options at any age.  We have a number of programs centering around issues that arise with aging and disabilities.  We work with you and your family to figure out what you need, know your choices and get connected.
