Program: Limited Driver's License Program

Agency: MOTOR VEHICLES, STATE OF CONNECTICUT DEPARTMENT OF

Resource Number: 17316796
Description
The Department of Motor Vehicles with the help of the Medical Advisory Board administer the Limited Driver's License Program, which allows DMV to issue licenses to people who would otherwise not qualify for a license due to medical conditions which limit their ability to drive. This type of license is for both new applicants and current license holders whose abilities have changed since his or her initial licensing. The type of license issued is based on the advice of the driver's medical professional and may also require an on-the-road skills evaluation by specially trained DMV staff. Once issued a limited license, the driver may be required to file periodic medical reports with updated information on their medical condition in order to retain their license. People who hold a current driver's license will not have to pay additional fees to be issued a limited license.
