Program: Diversionary Work Program (DWP)

Agency: Hennepin County Human Services and Public Health Department

Resource Number: 36898829
Alternate name: DWP

Minnesota's short-term (4 month), work-focused program that provides services and supports to eligible families to help them move immediately to employment rather than go on welfare. DWP is for families who apply for cash assistance and have not been on DWP or MFIP (Minnesota Family Investment Program) in the previous year. DWP program:

- Focuses on employment services to help participants find jobs quickly

- Helps families pay for rent, utilities or other housing costs. Housing costs are paid directly to the vendor

- Provides child care assistance and other supportive services needed to find work

- Families may be eligible for food support and health coverage, in addition to DWP
