MFIP is Minnesota's version of TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families). Minnesota's Family Investment Program provides a monthly cash payment to help supplement a families income as they move from public assistance to employment. Participants must meet program requirements or their benefits will be reduced, lifetime benefits are limited to 60 months. Child care and medical services are also available.

Program Delivery
Eligibility: Minnesota residents who are:

- Pregnant women

- Families with children under 18 (or under 19 if in secondary or vocational school full-time). Both parents can get MFIP if they are in the home.

- Relative caregivers (grandparents, aunts/uncles, cousins etc.) can get MFIP only for children in their care or can choose to be included in the MFIP grant. If the caregiver only wants assistance for the children, their income and assets are not considered and they are not subject to the MFIP 60-month limit.

- Other requirements for MFIP include: Immigration status, state residency, asset and income limits and cooperation with employment and child support requirements

Application Process: - Call for application or walk in to any Human Services or Satellite Center location

- Must complete a Combined Application Form (CAF) and complete a screening process
