Description
A federal assistance program that helps pay for the medical and nursing home care of persons who cannot pay for that care. The medical services that may be paid for by Medical Assistance (MA) include:

- Physician care

- Hospital care

- Prescriptions

- Eye care

- Routine dental care

- Mental health treatment

- Chemical dependency care

- Nursing home care

- Reimbursement for medical transportation and other health care access services available NOTE: Persons may be eligible only for MA or they may also be eligible for one of the cash assistance programs, EMA, and/or Food Support services. Those who receive cash through MFIP or MSA will, with few exceptions, also receive MA. MA is different from Medicare.

Medical Assistance for Employed Persons With Disabilities (MAEPD): People with disabilities who work, even if they are over the income or asset limits of Medical Assistance, may still qualify for the MAEPD Program.

Program Delivery
Eligibility: Medical Assistance:

- Must meet income guidelines and income and asset limits
- Must be a Minnesota resident, and be a US citizen or "qualified" non-citizen
- Hennepin County resident

Medical Assistance for Employed Persons With Disabilities:

- Must be certified disabled by either the Social Security Administration or the State Medical Review Team
- Be employed and have required taxes withheld or paid from earned income
- Have monthly earnings of more than $65
- Not be eligible for Medical Assistance under other, more beneficial categories
- Meet the asset limit
- Pay a premium
- Pay an unearned income obligation if required
- Hennepin County resident

Application Process: - Call, walk in for application at any Human Services or Satellite Center location

- Visit website/apply online at ApplyMN which is a secure web application

- MA coverage may go back three months from the day application is turned in

- Note: The agency processing time frames are the same if application process is online or in-person
Program Fees: None
Documents Required: Proof of assets; necessary bills or debts; proof of disability; proof of household income; proof of immigration status (I-94); proof of pregnancy; income tax return; Social Security card/number
