Description Aims to maintain the health and safety of elder and dependent adults who are victims of abuse or neglect. APS investigates reports of abuse involving:
  • Elder adults (ages 60 and older)
  • Dependent adults (ages 18-59 with disabilities). 
  • Information received is confidential, and specific and limited circumstances allow for exceptions.
APS is a voluntary program. Any victim of elder or dependent adult abuse may refuse or withdraw consent at any time.

APS may assist older and dependent adults in the following ways:
  • Provide 24-hour emergency response services
  • Mobilize emergency personnel such as paramedics or law enforcement in high-risk situations
  • Secure linkage and referrals for other services:
    • In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) or legal assistance.
  • Advocate for clients in a variety of situations
  • Arrange for direct services such as meal delivery or transportation
  • Coordinate and consult with other providers on behalf of client
  • Information and Referral for:
    • Money management, out of home placement, conservatorship, home care, and more.
Abuse can include physical abuse, neglect and self-neglect, mental suffering, and financial abuse. If one suspects elder or dependent adult abuse, call APS or fill out a Report of Suspected Abuse.
