Description

PROTECTIVE SERVICES: Provides professional services to at risk, vulnerable adults aged 18 and older. A vulnerable adult is an adult who lacks the physical or mental capacity to provide for the adult's daily needs. DSS investigates and arranges for services to remedy the situation. Legal mandates require adults in neglect cases to be seen within 5 days and in abuse cases within 24 hours. In severe cases, DSS petitions the Circuit Court to appoint a guardian. If no family member or individual is available, then DSS will be appointed guardian for persons under age 65. Area Agency on Aging will be guardian for persons ages 65 and older.
