Description

Provides access to resources and opportunities to improve the quality of life for low-income Latinos, their families and other immigrants in Montgomery and Prince George's Counties.

SERVICES:
1) EMPLOYMENT TRAINING: Provides training in building maintenance, computer repair, sewing, and other skills to low-skilled workers to increase opportunities for permanent employment. Also offers community health worker training program. 

2) LEGAL SERVICES: Provides legal advice and representation for issues regarding immigration, housing, and employment discrimination. Also offers individual immigration legal consultations, rights education sessions, and advocacy.

3) HEALTH PROGRAM: Provides information regarding enrollment in public benefit programs, additional government programs, and referrals to other mental health, physical health, and wellbeing resources for stability. Includes a bilingual health hotline and medical interpreting services for limited English speakers.

4) HOUSING PROGRAM: Provides counseling on home buying and housing issues, including tenants' rights.

5) EDUCATION PROGRAM: Provides classes in English (ESOL), Spanish and financial literacy; and home improvement. Includes a workers center, training programs, and small business development. Also, includes citizenship and civic involvement classes that assist permanent residents with passing the INS citizenship exam, and teach skills for community leadership, voting and how to get involved in local advocacy efforts. Also includes youth leadership for high school students in Baltimore City and Langley Park. 

6) INFORMATION & REFERRAL: Provides information and refers clients to services that may be able to assist them, such as emergency shelter, free or low-cost medical programs, mental health care, etc.

7) DONATIONS: In-kind donations on a case-by-case basis.

8) IDENTIFICATION CARD: ID will have picture, address and date of birth. Must bring proof of address, birth certificate and ID.

9) CITIZENSHIP PROGRAM: Provides citizenship classes and assists in completing the application. In addition, provides loans to cover the cost of the application.

10) CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP PROGRAM: Provides opportunities to participate actively on Montgomery County, State and Federal Government issues that impact the community (Driver license program, Immigration reform, living wage campaigns, affordable housing and health care issues).

Eligibility Any person who is a low-income immigrant to the United States.
Program Fees ID fee is $5 for members of CASA. CASA Membership dues are $35. Other services are free of charge.
