KCAO CalWorks (Stages I, II, and III) is a parent-choice subsidized childcare program that serves children ages 0-13. Parents may use any licensed or non-licensed provider in Kings County based on their child's specific needs and program regulations. Providers must clear fingerprinting and background checks. The head of the household enrolled in Stage II must be currently receiving or have received a CalWorks cash grant within the last 24 months preceding their enrollment. In addition to a CalWORKs grant, the parent must need child care, and the family must be income eligible. Child care needs include employment, seeking employment, training toward a vocational goal, or a physical or mental incapacity. Families must be referred through the Department of Human Services CalWORKs and meet need and eligibility requirements.
