Description

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR VETERANS: Offers individual grants support expenses such rent/mortgage payments, electricity/gas payments, water/sewer/trash payments, car payments, car insurance payments and or phone/internet payments. The intake process is administered through an online grant management portal, available 24/7. Once the information is received in the portal a grant specialist will complete a brief interview with each applicant before submitting applications for committee review and approval. The trust cannot assist with taxes, child support, speeding tickets, legal fees, payday and interpersonal loans, credit card debt, home repairs, car repairs, food, appliances, and vehicle purchases. Grant awards are provided directly to the landlord, mortgage, utility, etc.

Program
Eligibility All veterans and members of the national guard applicants must be Maryland residents for at least 12 months at the time of application; Applicant income may not exceed 300% of the federal poverty guidelines. VA benefits, Unemployment, Employment Earnings, Social Security, and Social Security Disability count as income; Widows and widowers may apply as long as they have the discharge of the deceased veteran and a certificate of death. This is a once in a lifetime benefit.

Application Process Must apply online at https://veterans.maryland.gov/veterans-trust-fund/, must be a veterans, members of the national guard, and surviving spouses of veterans.
Documents Required All required documents MUST be uploaded as full-page scanned documents. Not able to accept screenshots or partial information from a phone. If all documents are not ready for submission, please submit anyway and an application link to revisit that part of the application will be received. Applications will not be reviewed until all requirements are met. • DD214 Member-4 copy showing Discharge Status • MD Driver's License or State ID (birth certificate/social security card) of Applicant, Spouse/Partner and Dependent(s) • 2 months of Bank Statements • The last 30 days of paystubs or Unemployment Statements • VA Award Letter • Letter of Circumstance • Expense Invoice or Statements as proof of need
