Provides housing programs in the counties of Shasta (outside city limits of Redding), Siskiyou, Trinity and Modoc. Offered when funding is available. Programs include:
- Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program (Section 8/HUD) - Provides rental assistance to eligible families with low income. Visit website to check Waitlist Application and Information to see if waitlist is open or closed. As of 5/12/2026 They are no longer taking new applications.
- Fair Housing issues - includes a fair housing resource list, a booklet on California tenant rights, and a booklet on small claims courts.
- List of current low-income and HUD housing.
- List of low-income housing options that are not administered by the Housing Authority.
The Shasta County Housing Authority acts as a fair housing referral and information service. The County does not advise, provide legal service, or mediate disputes. Pamphlets regarding Fair Housing and California Tenants Rights are available at no charge.
Please note: Shasta County Housing Authority does not provide any emergency housing assistance.
Referral-only programs (by this and other agencies) include:
- Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) - Offers case management, education, and training to clients. Also offers rental assistance to aid families in becoming self-sufficient.
- Family Unification Program (FUP) and Foster Youth to Independence (FYI) - Program from Child Welfare. Helps reunify families who have lost their children for lack of housing or inadequate housing. Also for families who are trying to be reunified and lack of adequate housing is an imminent reason as to why they have not be reunified.
- Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) - Program from the VA. Offers rental assistance for Homeless Veterans.
Accepts referrals from qualified agencies to provide rental assistance under the following programs(voucher still required):
- Mainstream - for homeless individuals with disabilities
- Housing deficiencies - for homeless households.
